The Yemeni Centre for Studies and Research The Yemeni Centre for Studies and Research(Sanaa University) was founded in 1972, and is currently directed by Dr Abdelaziz Maqaleh. It directs research that tackles numerous issues, in the social sciences, history and economics... The Yemeni Centre for Studies and Research offers to the whole scientific community means to fulfil their works. It puts a well-stocked library, especially on Yemen, at the researchers' disposal. It has authority to publish all relevant studies and works about Yemen. In 1978 , it created his own scientific review : Dirâsât Yamaniyya (Yemeni Studies), which deals with all fields in the social sciences. The Yemeni centre establishes scientific collaborations with local, Arab or foreign foundations, and is in charge of translating to Arabic foreign publications concerning Yemen. To spread widely the results of its researches, the Yemeni Centre for Studies an Research organizes conferences, lectures and cultural events. The French Centre for Archaeology and Social Sciences The mission of the Centre Français d'Archéologie et de Sciences Sociales (CEFAS), currently directed by Dr François Burgat, is to initiate, coordinate and support the works of the French, Yemeni or foreign teams, in the social sciences and archaeology on Yemen and its neighbouring countries (Oman, Saudi Arabia, Eritrea). The fields of current research are wide, encompassing Southern Arabian civilization as well as the construction of the modern state : archaeology and history of Southern Arabia in the pre-Islamic and Islamic periods ; cultural heritage, identity and change in Yemen ; social significance of traditional practices and evolving dynamics in contemporary Yemeni society. The CEFAS provides students and researchers with various scientific, documentary, administrative and accommodation services. It collaborates in its research missions with several Yemeni, French and foreign academic institutions by means of partnerships and joint programs. The CEFAS also publishes studies about Yemen and a yearly journal, Chroniques Yéménites, in French and in Arabic. The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Sanaa pursues close cultural cooperation with Yemeni institutions in the larger framework of an European-Islamic Dialogue. The goal of this dialogue, which is of paramount importance to German cultural foreign policy, is to deepen mutual understanding and to intensify cultural exchange. Therefore, the German Embassy runs projects in different cultural fields, such as academic exchange, archaeology, language promotion and preservation of cultural heritage. The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung The Konrad Adenauer Foundation, named after the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, has been involved in development programs in more than a hundred countries around the world. In 2002, its International Cooperation Department will celebrate 40 years of activities in numerous countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Americas, and the Near East. Being a non-profit organization, the projects of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation serve the goal of promoting human development by strengthening democratic structures and the rule of law as well as by focusing on social issues. Partners of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation include organizations active in the areas of political research and education, parliaments, political parties, universities, trade unions and industrialist confederations as well as numerous pressure groups aiming at enhancing social and political participation. The Near East Regional Office of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation is based in Amman and Beirut. It is headed by Gregor Meiering, a historian and political scientist, who has previously been a consultant at the Ministry of Planning, Saudi Arabia (1998-2000), and a co-ordinator of the Middle East Research Program at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin / Institute for advanced study (1995-1998).
